Dr Jonathan Lai

MD MRCOG MBBS BSc (London)

Private Obstetric Care in London

Jonathan graduated from Imperial College and subsequently continued his training in Australia before returning to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology in London.

He undertook ultrasound scan training and a higher degree early in his career under the supervision of Professor Nicolaides, and as such, was awarded an MD from University College London for screening in pre-eclampsia. He is widely published in this field in a range of international medical journals.

He was an NIHR academic trainee, publishing work in fetal physiology and monitoring of fetal well-being over that period. After completing his core training in obstetrics and gynaecology, he underwent Sub-Specialist Training at King’s College Hospital and was subsequently appointed a consultant there. He was lead for managing women at risk of preterm labour and further to working on the labour ward managing complicated pregnancies, he provided interventional therapy for complex fetal problems alongside Professor Nicolaides.

His NHS practice is now based at St Mary’s where his expertise is utilised in high-risk obstetrics and in managing maternal and fetal conditions, but he also continues to deliver complex fetal care at Kings College Hospital.

Throughout his career, Jonathan has been interested in medical education. He is an honorary clinical lecturer at Imperial College, and regularly gives lectures, runs courses and teaches undergraduates and postgraduate students in fetal medicine and general obstetrics. He is currently also lead for fetal monitoring teaching to the multi-disciplinary team.
